Canadian multi-percussionist Patrick Graham fuses his training in Western classical and contemporary music and his extensive explorations of Mediterranean, Irish, South Indian and Japanese rhythms to create a highly personal, cross-cultural approach to percussion. Patrick has studied with Pierre Béluse (Montréal), Glen Velez (New York), Carlo Rizzo (Grenoble), Trichy Sankaran (Toronto), and Taichi Ozaki (Tokyo). He holds a Bachelor of Music from McGill University (Montréal), and has attended workshops and master classes at the Banff Center for the Arts, Simon Fraser University, and the KOSA International Percussion Workshops, as well as participating in the first Taiko Koh-Kan workshops conducted by the group Kodo, on Sado Island in Japan.

 

An extremely versatile player, Patrick performs and records internationally with a variety of artists and ensembles in a multitude of styles, including autorickshaw, La Nef, the duo GaPa with Ganesh Anandan, On Ensemble, FingerWorks, ima ensemble, Norouet, Ramasutra, Asa Nisi Masa and the Nishikawa Ensemble. Patrick has also performed with artists such as Carlo Rizzo, Glen Velez, Trichy Sankaran, Ramesh Shotham, Miqueu Montanaro, Kudsi Erguner, Farhan Sabbagh, Bob Brozman, Greg Howard, the Filippo Gambetta Trio, Sachio Suginuma, Takinojo Mochizuki, Makoto Takei, Tetsuro Naito, Kaoru Watanabe, Ismail Fencioglou, Shuni Tsou, Liu Fang, Kiyoshi Nagata Ensemble, Catherine Potter, Ben Grossman, Rainer Weins, Pierre Labbé, Danielle P. Roger, Ensemble Oktoecho, Catherine Lambert, the Montréal Guitar Trio, the Skye Consort, Stephen Stubbs, Les Voix Humaines, Suzie LeBlanc, Matthew White, Meredith Hall, David Greenberg, the Nicholas Williams Ensemble, Laura Risk, and Oliver Schroer. In the dance field, Patrick has created and performed music for dancer/ choreographers Hideo Arai (Tokyo), Aparna Sindhoor (Boston), Geneviève Martin (Montréal), Mariko Tanabe (Montréal), Geneviève Dussault (Montréal), Motaz Kabbani (Montréal), and in 1999 he was guest bodhran soloist with the Trinity Irish Dance Company (Chicago). As an instructor, Patrick has taught percussion for the Cirque du Soleil production Dralion, lectured at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Nashville (U.S.A.), and conducted workshops at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto (Canada), the Shanghai Conservatory of Music (China), Brhaddhvani Centre in Chennai (India), and the Miyamoto Unosuke Taikokan drum museum in Tokyo (Japan). Patrick Graham is an endorser of Cooperman Drums and Schlagwerk Percussion.
